In the 1940s, when contributing to the war effort in support of the United States was considered a good thing, National Postal Meter was one of the contractors building weapons for the War Department. This M1 Carbine built by National Postal Meter is a nice example. Not uncommon among the surviving Carbines, this one has been fitted with a barrel from another contractor– Underwood-Elliot-Fischer Co.. Government specifications were such that any collection of parts from the various M1 Carbine manufacturers was expected to be able to fit together and function according to performance standards.
